*NOTE: The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency, enforces the FCRA with respect to consumer reporting companies. The Department of Banking and Finance does not have state supervisory authority over credit reporting agencies; therefore, issues or complaints regarding these companies need to be forwarded to the FTC.
RATING SERVICES
Federal and state regulatory agencies regularly review the operations of all insured financial institutions to ensure that certain standards are met. Government regulatory agencies do not release their ratings on the safety and soundness of banks, thrifts and credit unions to the public.
There are rating service companies that utilize information from financial reports (Call Reports, Uniform Bank Performance Reports, Financial Performance Reports) to provide an independent analysis and rating/ranking of banks and credit unions. The Department cannot recommend or endorse any particular rating service company.
