Atlanta, Georgia ~ On March 28, 2008, an Order to Cease and Desist issued by the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance (“Department”) to Kawana Melvin of Atlanta, Georgia, became final.
This Order to Cease and Desist was issued by the Department after evidence was discovered that Kawana Melvin violated a previous Order to Cease and Desist that became final against her on April 17, 2006, for submitting false information to lenders in loan documents. Since April 17, 2006, Ms. Melvin was found to have engaged in residential mortgage activities while in the employ of Southlake Mortgage Corporation. By violating the initial Order to Cease and Desist in this manner, Ms. Melvin conducted mortgage business without a license or under an applicable exemption.
Pursuant to state law that was in effect at the time of the violation, it is prohibited for a Georgia residential mortgage licensee to employ a recipient of an Order to Cease and Desist for five years after the order became final if it was issued for engaging in unlicensed activities. Thus, as a result of the finality of this Order to Cease and Desist against Ms. Melvin, a mortgage broker or lender may not employ her until March 28, 2013, without risking the revocation of its license.
