The Georgia Department of Banking and Finance is responsible for supervising those who are licensed or registered (or who should be licensed or registered) to do business in Georgia as a check casher. An entity that cashes checks for which NO FEE is charged for the service is exempt from licensing or registration and therefore not regulated by our Department.

I have a question or complaint about a check seller or a money transmitter...

The Georgia Department of Banking and Finance is responsible for supervising those who are licensed (or who should be licensed) to sell checks or money orders or transmit money from locations in Georgia.

In addition, as provided for in Georgia law, the following entities are not required to obtain a license to sell checks or transmit money: banks, trust companies, credit unions, savings and loan associations or savings banks, the authorized agent of a licensee, and the United States Postal Service.
