Cornerstone Home Lending, Inc., of Houston, Texas, Ordered to Surrender

Atlanta, Georgia — On April 23, 2015, the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance (“Department”) entered into a Consent Order with Cornerstone Home Lending, Inc. (“Cornerstone”) (NMLS No. 2258), located at 1177 West Loop South, Suite 200, Houston, Texas 77027 and its owners, Judith Ann Belanger and Marcus Neely Laird.

The Consent Order was entered to resolve a Notice of Intent to Revoke and proposed Orders to Cease and Desist issued to Cornerstone and its owners for allegations including violating a final order previously issued by the Department.

Pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 7-1-1017(a), the Department may suspend or revoke the license of a mortgage broker, lender, or loan originator for violation of a final order previously issued by the Department. 

The terms of the Consent Order include the following:

  • Cornerstone has voluntarily surrendered its mortgage lender license. 
  • Cornerstone shall pay fines in the amount of $28,500 to the Department.
  • Cornerstone shall contribute $5,000 to the State Regulatory Registry, LLC, to support the NMLS.
  • Ms. Belanger and Mr. Laird shall be prohibited from directing the affairs of a licensed Georgia mortgage broker or lender for a period of five years.
