Bank and Credit Union Regulators
The Department regulates Georgia state-chartered banks and credit unions but does not regulate all banks and credit unions operating in Georgia. Banks and credit unions that are chartered in other states are typically supervised and regulated by that state's regulatory agency.
Additionally, national banks are chartered and regulated by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency ("OCC"). National banks are identified by the indication of "National" or "N.A." in their full legal name. For more information on national banks, please visit www.helpwithmybank.gov (provided by the OCC). In addition, you may find information on national banks on the OCC’s main webpage, www.occ.treas.gov.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (“FDIC”) also has federal regulatory authority over banks that have federally insured deposits. For more information on the FDIC, please visit www.fdic.gov. For more information about deposit insurance, please visit “Deposit/Share Insurance.”
The FDIC provides a search function which you can utilize to find a particular bank that has federally insured deposits. This search function can be accessed at https://banks.data.fdic.gov/bankfind-suite/bankfind. This site also provides information on banks, including locations and a link to the bank’s website.

The National Credit Union Administration (“NCUA”) supervises and regulates federally chartered credit unions. The NCUA provides a search function which you can utilize to find a particular credit union with federal share/deposit insurance, which can be accessed at mapping.ncua.gov/. This site also provides information on credit unions, including location, asset size, contact information, and website information as applicable.
