Credit Union Regulators
The Georgia Department of Banking and Finance supervises Georgia-chartered credit unions. A credit union that is chartered by another state is regulated by that state's banking/credit union department. The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) supervises federally-chartered credit unions.
The NCUA provides deposit insurance coverage for all credit unions doing business in Georgia. Credit union share insurance is similar to the deposit insurance protection offered by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The NCUA Share Insurance Estimator is an educational resource about share insurance and gives a detailed explanation of insurance coverage. The Your Insured Funds brochure gives a more detailed explanation of your insurance coverage.
