Atlanta, Georgia – On February 3, 2021, the Department of Banking and Finance issued a Final Order revoking the mortgage broker license of Mortgage Experts, Inc., (“Mortgage Experts”), NMLS No. 1223023, located at 385 County Club Drive, Suite B, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281.  The Final Order also revoked the mortgage loan originator license of the company’s president, Tyesa Smith, NMLS No. 1165502, and ordered Ms. Smith to cease and desist.

The Final Order was issued by the Department following a hearing on a Notice of Intent to Revoke Annual License, Notice of Intent to Revoke Mortgage Loan Originator License, and proposed Order to Cease and Desist based on violations of the Georgia Residential Mortgage Act, O.C.G.A. § 7-1-1000 et seq.  The Final Order held in part that Mortgage Experts and Ms. Smith altered documents in a mortgage loan file in violation of O.C.G.A. § 7-1-1013(1), (2), and (6) and made false statements to the Department by providing conflicting explanations regarding the altered documents and by filing inaccurate mortgage call reports reflecting zero activity in violation of O.C.G.A. § 7-1-1013(11).

Pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 7-1-1004, the Department may revoke the license of a mortgage broker or mortgage lender that employs any other person whose license has been revoked or against whom a final order to cease and desist based on O.C.G.A. § 7-1-1013(11) has been entered within five (5) years of the date such person was hired.
